You can’t have lunch any closer to Praia dos Pescadores than when you’re sitting at the sun-drenched cliff top terrace tables at Canastra. While you’re eating you can watch the waves, the surfers and the fishing boats. If you are not hungry this is also a great place for an afternoon drink on your stroll around Ericeira.

If you are hungry this is the place to try a couple of Portuguese specialties. Just sample Canastras fresh cheese, octopus’ salad and sardine paste. The starters are a bit steep in price. But you pay for the view. You probably worked hard all winter so relax and soak up the Portuguese sun.

The menu is not exactly extensive. This is a good place to go for charcoal grilled fresh fish. You choose you fish from the display and its cooked to order. We usually go for the Red Snapper. The Turbot is also good. All the grilled fish comes with boiled potatoes and veggies included. Make sure to inquire about the price of the fish you order, judging by reviews it seems like some guests have been a little surprised when they were hit with the bill.

If you don’t want fish, we recommend clams and mussels in a garlic lemon sauce. The sauce is great together with the rustic Portuguese bread.

The wine selection here is a bit more expensive than at other places. But taking the view into consideration it feels worth it. If you still have some room the deserts are good and typically Portuguese.

Canastra is not recommended for vegetarians or vegans as there is only fish and meat on the menu. But for everyone else this is a great place for unpretentious traditional Portuguese cuisine. For this reason the restaurant is particularly popular among people visiting form Lisbon. Join the dressed-up city people and enjoy seafood with a view.
