Furnas

Ericeira Insiders Most Popular Restaurants Series

Restaurant Furnas offers fresh seafood and the best ocean view in town. It’s a particularly good idea to go when the waves are big. Choose a table near the window and enjoy watching the waves crash almost beneath you.

Except for their location on the cliffs (a blue and white boat will let you know you are in the right place), Furnas also have a restaurant further down on the same road. Marisqueira Furnas, the view from this restaurant is not as spectacular as the view from the original Furnas. But in the summertime you can sit outside and we have heard good things about the food.

Back to the original Furnas, make sure you bring plenty of cash because it’s a view that comes with a price tag. Their plate of clams will set you back a steep 18.5 euros.

But we all feel frivolous at times. For example when you have something special to celebrate. Those are the times when Furnas floor to ceiling windows and panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean suddenly feels like the right decision.

Or when your parents are visiting, and you feel confident that they will pick up the tab.

Whatever your reason the location is cool and watching the waves and the fishing boats really enhance the plates of freshly caught grilled fish Furnas serve.

Choose Your Fish at Furnas

At the entrance of Furnas different kind of fishes are displayed. You chose which one you want and the waiter weighs the fish and tells you the price.

There are some reports of guest who have not been satisfied with Furnas for various reasons. Some people calling it a tourist trap. However, I rarely see tourists there, just well-off Portuguese. I just think you have to be clear about what the price for the fish of your choice is and exactly what’s included.

If you want a starter, we recommend the shrimp in garlic sauce. Perfect to munch on while your fish is being grilled. The main dish is served with the classic condiments of boiled potatoes and veggies.

There is no vegetarian option, so Furnas is not the place to go if you don’t eat fish.

If you don’t manage to get a table by the window it’s not worth it, the restaurant itself is not cozy. No one recommend the desserts so skip them.

But with those reservations out of the way, pay Furnas a visit if you want to enjoy an amazing the ocean view, and charcoal grilled fresh fish.
