The small garden is great for chilling out post-surf. Due to the small size of the hostel and the comfortably furnished common area, it’s easy to start chatting with the other guests. Thus it’s a great place for exchanging travel tips and making new friends from all over the world.
A Cool Surf Vibe
Hostel 55 Ericeira also markets themselves as a surf camp. With a view of the ocean and walking distance to at least 5 beaches it’s easy to see why. The whole house oozes of a great surf vibe with daily pickups for the people who has surf-lesson scheduled. As it should be in a surf house there are always people wanting to discuss the waves and which break to go to next. There is also the option to rent surf gear as well as bikes directly in house, to go and explore on your own.
When you are finished with a day of surfing you can walk into town in less than 10 minutes. Have dinner at a local restaurant or shop for fresh produce in the municipal market. The hostel has a well equipped communal kitchen.
Potential Flaws of Hostel 55 Ericeira
The typical guest of 55 is pretty young, so the atmosphere is lively, with people talking and going to the nearest supermarket to buy beers together. So if you looking for a bit more of a calm grown up surf holiday, this might not be the place for you.
The walls are on the thin side and the closing and opening of doors can get noisy during the night. And a couple of extra bathrooms wouldn’t hurt.
