What is Vila Gale Ericeira?
Vila Gale Ericeira is a 4-star hotel located at the waterfront of the old town in Ericeira. This means a panoramic view over one of Portugal’s most beautiful stretches of coasts and the waves of the Atlantic practically crashing under your feet.
The cliff side building has plenty of old school charm, and features 202 room, all with AC. The closest beach, Praia do Sul, is just around the corner. The old town of Ericeira is a 5-minute stroll away.
Several Pools and a Big Terrace
The best thing about Hotel Vila Gale Ericeira is the big ocean facing terrace. On the terrace there are two pools for adults and one for children. All three pools offering that amazing feeling of watching the ocean as you take a dip.
The terrace is the perfect place for unwinding after exploring the surrounding beaches and sleepy small towns. Even non-guests are welcome for an Aperol Spritz or a Meia de leite. Looking at the waves rolling in, and the occasional surfer catching them, you will really feel that you are on holiday.
Perfectly Located
The central location is another big perk about staying at Vila Gale Ericeira. It’s easy to get back to your room after an evening with vino verde and fresh seafood, or when you have been enjoying the Ericeira nightlife dancing the night away at Ouriço night club.
If you need to relax, the hotel has a Spa section, which offers sauna, Turkish bath, hot tub and various spa treatments. We had a great Swedish massage during one of our visits.
Hotel Vila Gale Ericeira also has everything else you would expect from a 4-star hotel. A big breakfast buffet and warm and helpful staff.
Potential Flaws of Vila Gale Ericeira
Most guests agree that Hotel Vile Gale Ericeira offers good value for money. But it’s important to note that this is not the place where you can expect newly renovated, no expenses spared, over the top luxury. The rooms need more electric sockets and are a bit on the dark side. Some guests hinted that there was time for Hotel Vila Gale Ericeira to start thinking about renovation.
It’s also worth to note that the Spa is outside the main facilities. Some of the guests felt that the Spa was a bit small. The same criticism was raised about the gym. Its basic and the equipment is a bit old.
The WiFi also received a scoop of the criticism. Modern day travelers expect fast and consistent internet connection and according to the reviews Vila Gale Ericeira is not there yet.
The on-site restaurant is nothing to write home about. However we did enjoy a particularly good Arroz de Marisco there and we have also heard great things about the weekly all-you-can-eat Sea food buffet.
If you want to have a sea view from your room, make sure the room you book indeed has a sea view. If you are in the mood for a splurge, the suites are particularly good for gazing at the ocean from your private balcony.

Hotel Vila Gale Ericeira works great for both families and couples looking for a romantic getaway, as well as anyone who wants a comfortable holiday. The hotel has several things to satisfy the children, a park, a playground and a big kiddy pool.
